SEFA – celebrating 35 years of setting the standard for safe labs!
The organizational meeting of the Scientific Equipment & Furniture Association (SEFA) was held in 1988. Over the past 35 years SEFA has grown and evolved from a 20 member North American association of lab furniture manufacturers to a global industry association consisting of 161 of the world’s largest, most prestigious lab furniture manufacturers, dealers, installers, architects, lab planners and engineers located in 27 different countries.
Believing that the proper lab furniture and appropriate enclosures add a blanket of safety in the lab environment, SEFA has made it their mission to promote the use of “Lab Grade” furniture, fixtures and related equipment. Our association mandates independent third-party testing of member products to insure SEFA compliance.

SEFA Lab of the Year® is a global competition celebrating innovation in laboratory design and excellence in execution. We welcome submissions from architects, owners and builders of all types of laboratories, located anywhere in the world.
SEFA’s Biennial Global Market Survey Report has become an invaluable marketing/forecasting tool for our members. The report highlights the growth of this dynamic, three billion dollar per year industry by various regions of the world.
SEFA’s Annual Meeting – This event is held in the United States in early November. Industry representatives throughout the world gather to hear important keynote presentations, collaborate on SEFA Lab Grade Standards, participate in lab tours and network with their industry colleagues.
