Biography

Matt Humes is the Director and Head of Laboratory Automation at Beam Therapeutics, a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. In this pivotal role, Matt leads the automation team and strategy across the organization, driving integration of cutting-edge technologies advancing Beam’s vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

Focused on creating flexible robotics and data-driven pipelines, Matt’s team specializes in automation of essential molecular biology processes such as next-generation sequencing, mRNA Production and LNP Screening. Matt’s close collaborations with industry partners has positioned Beam as an early adopter of new automation advancements, ensuring the seamless integration of state-of-the-art equipment.

Before joining Beam in 2018, Matt worked at Regeneron. His transformative approach to process improvement led to the formation of an automation team which contributed to projects including exome sequencing, Robotic Storage, and a dedicated automation suite.
