Abda Mahmood

Associate Director, EU Vaccines Evidence Generation

GSK

Biography

Abda has over a decade of experience in research across academia and industry, including a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her PhD thesis used brain scans collected as part of routine clinical practice to assess the effect of the trial treatment on bleeding into the brain and other neuropathological outcomes. Whilst this collaborative study showed some evidence that the trial treatment reduced bleeding, Abda’s thesis also revealed the strengths and limits of using routinely collected real-world data to assess the effect of a clinical trial treatment. Before completing her PhD, Abda worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry and completed the MSc in Psychological Research at the University of Oxford. More recently, Abda has worked for two Fortune 500 companies (IQVIA & GSK). At IQVIA, she supported and led the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of numerous studies across a range of therapeutic areas. At GSK, Abda is responsible for providing epidemiological expertise across a number of vaccines, and leading strategic planning and delivery of evidence generation activities across the vaccines portfolio in the EU.
